Jbeau and I made our way to Belize and flew into the international airport in Ladyville, which is just outside of Belize City. We ended up driving through Belize City on our route to the Blancaneaux Lodge and got stuck in the city for a bit because they were having a parade and the roads were closed. Apparently the parade started off the month long celebrations for their independence from Britain. We were lucky to have seen some of the Carnaval Celebrations and it was a good excuse to make a stop and hang out with the locals. We drove along the Western Highway and went through the jungle to make it to the Lodge. It ended up taking us an hour to get up the last 14 miles of road because when they say road they mean rocks and mud and gravel. The air smelled so refreshing and clean though. It was quite the experience. We settled in for the night and explored the lodge once we got there.
luxury camping at its best
the "shell phone" that called the front desk- pretty clever!
